Leak finder: trace a leak to its source
Tell it where you see water, or what seems wrong. It works back along the pipes and lists the likely sources in order.

How the leak finder works
Water runs downhill and along pipes, joists and tile joints, so where it shows up is a clue to where it started. The finder starts from what you can see, asks what sits above it and when it changes, and adds up how well each usual source fits your answers.
The result lists up to three sources, most likely first, with the answers that pointed to each one. It is a guide to where to look next. It cannot see inside your walls, so treat it as a starting point, and use the check listed under each source to confirm it.
Nothing you choose is sent anywhere. Your answers are kept in this browser tab until you close it, so you can go and look at the meter and come back.

Choose the place where you first noticed the water. If it shows in two places, run the finder for each; the source that comes up in both is the one to check first.
